Obituary of Sara Lea Davis

 

Sara Lea Hayes Davis of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on February 2, 2026, at Georgetowne Place. She was born on December 12, 1937, in Fairmount, IN to the late Fred and Leah Hayes.

She graduated from Fairmount High School in 1955 and was valedictorian of her class. She attended Indiana University, graduating in 1959 Magna Cum Lauda and was listed in Phi Beta Kappa.

Sara was united in marriage to George Robert Davis on June 7, 1959. She taught English at Woodburn Junior High, Portage Junior High, and Elmhurst High School. She received her master’s in English from St. Francis then returned to school to study music at IPFW. Following this she taught voice at IPFW for over 20 years.

She also taught voice and piano students in her home. She has sung in the choir and played organ at several churches in Fort Wayne, most recently at Epiphany Lutheran Church. She has been a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a music fraternity, Philharmonic Friends, a member of the board of Heartland Sings and sang in the Philharmonic Chorus.

Sara is survived by her husband George Davis; daughter, Tamara (Mark) Sacco; son, James (Alicia) Davis; sister, Sue (Keith) Plasterer; five grandchildren; Joshua Vandre, Kiara Sacco, Kris (Angel) Lawless, Corey (Katy) Davis, and Lucy Davis and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Fred and David.

Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 6606 Maplecrest Road with visitation two hours prior to the service.
