I just succeeded in finding Stephen's records. I used a new search utility, www.instantcheckmate.com  There were several people by that name, but only one aged 64 (age at death) and two residences were cirted, one was Fort Wayne, and I think the other was in South Carolina. The service provides a wide range of information.  At the end of the data collection, which takes about 5 minutes, there is a price of about $28 for a month subscription.  I chose not to get that for just this one instance, and after declining the report went away so I didn't get a chnace to confirm the last place of residence.  I suggest that Toni or another classmate pay that and then pursue info on all missing classmates to make it worthwhile.

Mary Alice, thanks for the follow-up insight. I appreciate your capabilities and efforts, and hadn't been aware (or had forgotten about) who all may have been actively involved in the research. The resource that I mentioned may not be as effective or legit as it appears, but my impression was that it may be a new tool that had not been pursued a few years ago. I wonder if someone in Philadelphia might have access to 1946 records, even a phone book that might lead to family contacts, etc.  But, then, I assume that he may have moved to Fort Wayne with his parents and there would be an avenue to look into. Or perhaps there is a rabbi afiliated with the site of his interment that could provide insight. But I'm just brainstorming in a field that you are well involved with, and had tried that utility on a whim, in response to the generic request for info. .

I was not familiar with instacheckmate.com, so this morning I asked several of my genealogy friends about it. None of them had heard of it either, but one of them did a quick search. It seems to be a site used by employers seaking information about prospective employees. One review of the site indicated it was hard to unsubscribe.
