Skip died in a car accident. His car hit a telephone pole one evening. It was most likely 1962. I remember that after his death, his mother invited a few of us over to watch football games in their basement. I think we did this once or twice. It gave her some comfort to have us around for awhile. I remember those were some very sad times. I still think about that from time to time. RIP old friend.
Skip was a good friend and neighbor. We grew up together from about 11 on. He was smart and a good athlete. He was in his sophomore year at IU when it happened. His Mom called our house the morning after the late night accident, and my Dad and I went over to sit with her and Skip’s stepfather Casey. That was a sad and shocking time. My buddy Mike Havlin can attest to that. As I recall, we were both pall bearers at his funeral.
Skip pops into memory regularly. I’m sure he would have accomplished a lot in life.
Reading John’s comment about Skip brought back so many memories. It was so sad..I was at Purdue..I think Jim Littlejohn told me. Gosh it has been over 50 years ago!
