Cheryl (Lee) Werling

July 25, 1946-May 4, 2023

Cheryl passed away after complications from a brief illness on May 4, 2023 surrounded by daughter and son-in-law. Cheryl was born on July 25, 1946 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was the oldest daughter of Floyd "Bud" Lee and Thelma Shaw Lee. Cheryl had a full life of love, family, tennis, and the University Yacht Club. Her time was filled with many lifelong friends with whom she made many wonderful memories. She attended South Side high school in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and married her childhood neighbor and sweetheart Richard Alan Werling. They both went on to attend Indiana University where she was a member of Tri Delt sorority.

Cheryl married Rick in 1965, and had a wonderful 38 year marriage before he passed unexpectedly in 2003. The family spent every summer sightseeing across the United States in a van with no air conditioning, but that just added to the adventure. Her days were filled with tennis, Bunco, book club, and no shortage of happy hours on the lake or at a friend's home. Cheryl and Rick would always tear up the dance floor. She worked at Coldwell Banker as a real estate agent and was also a very good artist. Cheryl and Rick were blessed with and raised two children: Andrea Hill (David), and Todd Werling. She was a loving grandmother to Andrew and Turner Hill; as well as Joseph Werling.

Cheryl was predeceased by her parents Thelma and Floyd Lee, and her brother Fred Lee. She also has a sister Carol Nelson (Jim)-Englewood, FL, and a brother Richard Lee (Lanna)-Ft. Wayne, IN; as well as extended family still in Indiana.

Cheryl will be missed but her memory will live on, especially with her posse of girlfriends in Flowery Branch, GA. A toast to Julie, Sue, Patty, Pat, Darlene, Marsha, DeDe, and Bobbi. Special thanks to Tom Ritchie of Canada. She was always the first to arrive and last one to leave any social gathering, and embraced everything Irish. Franzia boxed wine and Celine Dion have lost a truly devoted fan.

Her Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Memorial Park South Funeral Home, 4121 Falcon Parkway, Flowery Branch, Georgia 30542 is in charge of arrangements. Send on-line condolences to www.memorialparkfuneralhomes.com.

Cheryl was a close friend of mine during all four years at South Side High School.  She was a beautiful woman, both inside and out.  She was always a soft spoken gentle person that had such a radiant smile.  There was a group of us girls that always attended the football and basketball games on Friday nights and I have fond memories of heading to Halls on Bluffton Road afterwards to socialize.  Rick, her husband of many years also attended South Side, a year older I believe, and Cheryl and Rick dated through high school and had such a great relationship.  I think our group of girls who spent time together were always envious of what a beautiful couple they made.  Cheryl will be sadly missed by all who loved her and spent time with her.  May she rest in peace.
