OBITUARY
Dan Russell Jones
NOVEMBER 23, 1945 – JULY 28, 2020
Dan R. Jones, 74, passed peacefully July 28, 2020, at his home in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Dan was born November 23, 1945, in Alexandria, Indiana to Don and Alpha Jones. He had a lust for life and could make anyone smile whose path he crossed, especially his family and friends. He was in the Army National Guard and worked at General Electric for 42 years prior to his retirement. After retirement he became an ordained minister who performed and officiated two wedding ceremonies. Coney Island remained a favorite throughout the years, as did colorful & crazy socks & shirts, sarcasm, Bob Seger, and golfing or dining with the people most important to him. The importance of his friends cannot be stressed enough, as they felt like members of our family, and we are forever grateful for this. He is survived by his wife, Sandi Jones; his children and their spouses, Chris and Veronica Jones, Helen and Reece McCormick, Zach and Leah Jones; his step children Pete and Breein Poling; and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dee and Ray; and granddaughter Gray Monroe Poling. As one chapter closes another opens, and wherever Dan is we would like to believe he is enjoying time with those who were waiting for him. Until we meet again, we love you. No Services will be held. Celebration of Life to be determined. In lieu of flowers, have a Coney & a beer in memory of Dan and be kind to one another.
Michael L. Byrd
Peace be with you brother.

I posted this on Facebook:
Dan Jones, one of my oldest friends from when we were teenagers, passed away this morning. He was my age, 74, and died of kidney failure linked to congestive heart failure. We called our confederation "the clan." Small "C." There were eight of us––Dan, Jim Smith, Steve Jugloff, Pete Tsuleff, Mike Macalister, Dave Mullins, Ronnie Martz and me. We tore up the streets in Ft. Wayne, Indiana from 1960 to 1964. We drank beer, chased girls, drag raced, partied, worked any part-time job we could find to pay for our cars. I'm glad we were born when we were. If you've ever seen the movie "American Graffiti", you got a glimpse of us on a Saturday night.

I think a Hunter S. Thompson said it best, “ Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, loudly proclaiming, “Wow, what a ride!” Hunter S. Thompson. Dan lived a good life.

So sorry to hear this..he was one of my favorites! Best man in my wedding to Dave. Always had a smile on his face and a great comeback that could bring you to your knees...yes, the clan could capture a room when they appeared. Great memories for me...those were the days!

It is so sad for me to learn of Dan's passing. I think Bob's comments above pretty much sums it up. Dan was a friend and a solid guy. The clan was funny, cynical, irreverant, horney and tribal companionship, we all "came of age" together. Jugloff and Mullins have passed and now Dan. I doubt if any of us ever thought we would live this long. Peace brother, you have left good memories.

Rest in peace until we meet again.
