Phil was one of the first people I met when I moved to Fort Wayne. We lived about a block from each other throughout high school. Our academic interests were quite different, but we shared a fascination for cribbage. Phil anticipated plays a bit better than I did, but I was a better late-game pegger, so our games were very close. We played nearly every afternoon after school, and over the years, our win totals were nearly identical. Our lives diverged after high school, and we kept in touch only infrequently - but laughed at the same things whenever we saw each other. Phil introduced me to many of the friends I developed at South. Phil exemplified "neighbor." My life is enriched for having known him.
