Harry was born on October 17, 1945, and died on February 14, 2007, in Marion, Indiana. He is survived by his son Greg Luchnenko, his daughter Mindi Schoeph, and two grandchildren. (Fort Wayne News-Sentinel, March 1, 2007)

Other classmates may correct me, but I believe Harry was born in the Ukraine. His real name was Gregory, but his parents were great admirers of Harry Truman, who was president when they immigrated to the U.S., so Harry was called after him. Harry was one of the handful of us mid-termers who went through almost all 12 years of school together, first at John S. Irwin elementary, then James H. Smart junior high, and finally on to South Side. The greatest thing about Harry was his sense of humor. I loved to sit next to him in class because he always made me laugh.

Harry was a very good friend of mine. We were in school together at James Smart and South Side. I enjoyed playing sports with him and always laughing at his wonderful sense of humor. He was a true friend.
