When Sue Smith told me about Karen's passing, i was so sorry to hear it.  Those of you who grew up in Indian Village will likely remember Karen. Just as mine did, her family moved there and lived in two different houses in the addition.  The 2nd move placed her just several houses down from where i lived on Manitou, on the same block as Dave Fleming, Toni Heathman, and Jane Knettle.  Karen was in several of my classes at Indian Village Elementary, and then on to Harrison Hill, and eventually South Side so we became good friends.  Karen always had a smile on her face and her positivity was infectious. Marty was the love of her life and his early passing was devestating to her, as was the death of her Mother not long after.  But she still kept that smile on her face regardless.  I spoke with her several times trying to get her to come to one of the Reunions.   Finally, several of us were successful and Karen and her companion Walt came to our 50th Reunion.  You can see several pictures of her in our 50th Reunion Photo Gallery and you will see she has such a happy face.  I know that she struggled some even then and we are so grateful that she choose to come 5 years ago.  Some of you also may have known her sister Linda, or brothers Rob, and Rick.  I will miss you, dear Friend, but i know you are finally where you wanted to be.

Please take a moment to look at Karen's Profile page.

I will miss Karen. She was a good childhood friend and a renewed friend following the 50th Reunion.  Karen was a writer and a good one.. She wrote stories and poems from the time I met her in 3rd grade and into adulthood.  We played softball together in Indian Village, rode bikes, walked to Quimby Village, put on plays, and just had an all round good chiildhood. She will be missed by many including her beloved grandchildren. Karen, you were a good friend and I will miss you.

I am so sorry to hear that we have lost another valued classmate.  Karen was such a beautiful woman with a fantastic smile that made everyone around her smile too. She had a shyness about her that was unexpected for such an accomplished person.  I remember talking with her at the 50th reunion and hearing about her family which meant so much to her.  She truly missed her husband Marty who was so much a part of her life.  I will miss seeing Karen at our reunion gatherings, but I will think of her smiling down upon us and her spirit always being with us.
